1940 Chevy Cab Over Engine Cab Chassis |
The Detroit Library's new traveling library, the Bookmobile, got off to an auspicious start when it opened on Detroit's West side, one of six outlying locations that it covered in rotation each week. The Bookmobile was the largest unit of its kind in existence and was powered by a Chevrolet cab over engine (COE) truck unit. Four thousand books on its shelves had been selected by librarians to appeal to every reader from small children to adults. The librarians in attendance, standing in the doorway (left to right) were Dorothy DeGoza and Terese Flaherty, who was in charge of the unit.
